VAN MONTFRANS ARCHITECTURE is a small, hands-on architecture practice focused on commercial, community, and adaptive reuse projects.
The practice is led by Clare van Montfrans, a licensed architect in Colorado, working closely with clients, consultants, and contractors throughout each project. Her background spans a range of project types and scales, supporting a collaborative process and a clear understanding of both design intent and construction realities.
Our work is grounded in practicality and thoughtful decision-making, with an emphasis on clarity, material restraint, and spaces that feel considered and cohesive. We are interested in projects shaped by real constraints — budget, existing conditions, program — and in finding solutions that respond directly to those conditions rather than working against them.
Based in Western Colorado, the practice reflects a deliberate choice to live and work in this landscape — where time outside, access to open space, and a strong connection to place informs each project, supporting work that responds directly to its surroundings and the communities it serves.
We take on a limited number of projects at a time to maintain a high level of involvement and care.
